I have always worked in the theatre. When I was three, making my first puppet, I realized that my job would have been to direct people on stage. At school, I used to direct my friends in my shows. At eleven I founded the first theatrical company to date in the local Parish Church. The entrance in the professional world at nineteen made me realize many things about show business; most important of all, that a director should approach actors with humility, since they are the real protagonists – with the audience – of the magic of the show. They contribute to that “hic et nunc” that we directors have helped to prepare but from which we are somehow excluded in the performance.This is the reason why I love working equally with soloist actors and with amateur – I admire their enthusiasm and their always-transforming energy. |
